OVERVIEW:
A Pembrokeshire business employing in excess of 20 people realised that in order to remain competitive it needed to invest in new manufacturing technology. The managers of the business saw technology as a way of increasing business efficiency, giving greater manufacturing throughput and as a way of ensuring new products could be made.
HOW DID PBI HELP?
Working with the business, business advisor Terry Thomas evaluated the project and produced financial forecasts. Along with market analysis, Terry showed that the project was viable and could possibly attract potential funding. This gave the managers the encouragement they needed to move the project forward. With PBI’s support the business began planning, which involved looking not only at the technology but also at staff and training issues which would accompany any investment. PBI helped to complete and submit a successful grant application to WAG (Welsh Assembly Government). This led to support of £50,000 for the project.
OUTCOME:
The business has not only become more efficient in its manufacturing processes, but has increased its competitiveness. Products can now be made in less time than before and the flexibility of the new machinery has expanded the company’s product range, leading to greater sales opportunities.
