Is your business protected from e-Crime?

Friday 14th August 2009

Businesses in Wales are facing real and potentially devastating risks from e-Crime, while new threats are emerging with increasing regularity.

e-Crime currently costs Welsh businesses around £294 million every year, through direct financial or intellectual property theft, disruption of communications or damage to business-critical data.

Ironically it’s not the larger companies that are at the greatest risk. It is actually the smaller businesses (of which we have many in the County) who may not have the knowledge to protect themselves from e-Crime or indeed even be aware that such a risk exists.

To help Pembrokeshire business owners improve their understanding and appreciation of the wide range of online threats, PBI are hosting a morning ‘e-Crime’ event on Thursday 24th September.

The seminar,to be held at the Plas Hyfryd Hotel, Narberth, will be presented by specialist police officers and e-Business consultants from e-Crime Wales and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Even if you do not use the internet, if your business has a computer, you are at risk. The event will highlight the importance of having the right policies and procedures in place to protect vital information and the ways in which you can significantly reduce your business'exposure to e-Crime.

The event is just one of a series being run by PBI through their ‘Community Based Business Development for Micro Rural Enterprises’ programme. The project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
